About Us
Dharmas is a music and dance artistic project, bringing together Jean Piel, Claire Ludwig and their daughter, Naomi, an areal dance performer.
They have created their own style, integrating instruments, dances and cultures from different parts of the world, where they have traveled and lived through the years.
Original songs, mantras, devotional chants in different languages, all adapted to their musical compositions, with kora, egyptian harp, native american flute, tablas, guitar...
Dharmas's intention is to share their gratitude towards the universe, and their quest for peace and harmony through love, art and daily happiness.
History
Jean Piel was born in France. As an adolescent, he showed interest in music and took different classes without finding what he was looking for. At age 24 he went to live in Gabon Africa where he found a different approach to music, participating in ancestral rituals, and found that music can be a way to connect to other dimensions. Since then, he dedicated himself to play and build the "N'goma", a harp from Gabon descended from the ancient Egyptian harp, and the "Kora," a traditional harp from West Africa.
In his last year in Gabon, Jean met Claire. They lived together in Gabon for a year, then traveled to different parts of the world. They experimented with different ways of life and connecting with the spirit, and nourished themselves with the music and dances from each place.
Claire Ludwig was born in Canada, and lived in Gabon from age 4 to 18. She studied ballet from a young age, latter modern and African dance, and started teaching dance at 17.
After she met Jean, she started learning and playing drums and singing, and further on, learned to play the tablas from India, and guitar.
Naomi was born in Mexico, where they have lived most of the time. She also traveled and lived with her parents, in different enviroments and cultures. Naomi studied Indian dance, ballet, flamenco... When she was 9, she was brought to the areal dance, while living in a creative community, on the beautiful beaches of Tulum, in the Mexican Caribbean; she practiced with friends, and started performing with her parents, bringing an amazing contribution to the show.
Dharmas have been performing mainly in Mexico,Costa Rica, Peru, and more recently in Canada, at festivals, private events, weddings, retreats... Jean and Claire also offer their music in sacred medicine plants retreats.
